Today we will talk about putrefactive changes of the corpse. | Forensic Pathologist

Today we will talk about putrefactive changes of the corpse.

Putrefaction is the decomposition of proteins by microbes (aerobes and anaerobes).
Due to putrefaction, the nitrogen cycle in nature is carried out, life is impossible without putrefaction. But there are also disadvantages from a forensic point of view - changing and destroying a corpse makes it difficult to resolve issues.

Conditions of rotting of the corpse :
Temperature : The optimal temperature of the human body. Above 60 degrees Celsius, putrefaction stops, autolysis is intense; below 0 degrees Celsius, it does not occur at all.

Oxygen access :
Anaerobes act without air, and there will be a lot of intermediates.

Humidity :
In water, it is slower and turns into fat, if it is dry, liquid is lost and rotting slows down.
Types of rotting :
Dry (little liquid)

Wet (lots of liquid)

Gas (many microbes)
