We understand that you are observing various Linux OS’s and wondering what could make them differ from one other also how could they be so many? Because Linux distributions are growing fast and still they increasing in number, here is why . . .

: PMS(Package Management System)
Linux Distributions are organized into sections by the major distribution they are based on, or the PMS they are based on around.

• There are 7 PMS based sections which we can categorize every Linux Distros. Those are:

1. RPM-based
2. Debian-based
3. Pacman-based
4. Gentoo-based
5. Slaxkwave-based
6. Source-based
7. Independent

What is a Linux Distro?
Windows and Mac OS X are built in-house by the companies that sell them. Linux is different in this case. Being an open-source operating system, it opens up room for anyone with a desire to create their own OS to actually do so without a lot of programming knowledge.

Whenever someone creates their own version of Linux with the use of an existing Linux distro as their base (or create one without a base by using the Linux kernel code), the complete package is called a Linux distribution.
