Wallenberg syndrome is a neurological condition caused by a lateral medullary infarction, which results from occlusion of either the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) or the vertebral artery. For this reason, it is also referred to as lateral medullary syndrome or PICA syndrome.
