In the medieval times, sometimes only Jesters were allowed to give bad news to the King - news no one else dared to give. In 1340, when the French fleet was sunk by the English navy at the battle of Sluys, the Court Jester of King Phillippe VI told him:
"English sailors don't even have the guts to jump into the water like our brave French".
