The okapi (Okapia johnstoni) is a beautiful and unusual mammal that is often called the "forest giraffe." It is the only living relative of the giraffe, and like its tall cousin, it has a long neck, large ears, and a prehensile tongue. However, unlike the giraffe, the okapi is much smaller and has a reddish-brown coat with zebra-like stripes on its legs and hindquarters. Wild okapi live exclusively in the Ituri Rainforest in northwest Democratic Republic of the Congo in central Africa.
