Civita di Bagnoregio is a town in the Province of Viterbo in central Italy, a suburb of the comune of Bagnoregio, 1 kilometre (0.6 mi) east from it. It is about 120 kilometres (75 mi) north of Rome.

Civita di Bagnoregio and the "Badlands Valley" represent an area of extraordinary interest to be enhanced and maintained, with features that make it almost unique

These characteristics are:
- the variety, speed and areal density of the slopes instability;
- the ability to reconstruct with rare precision over the past 300 years the changes induced in the village by geomorphological evolution, through the examination of documents and maps;
- the urban structure and architecture of Civita di Bagnoregio, remained intact over the centuries (except of course for the buildings damaged or destroyed by landslides);
- the high value of its wildlife and the extraordinary scenic beauty of the "Valley of the Badlands."

The evolution of the area is particularly evident along the access ridge to Civita, that from 1764 has undergone a lowering of about 40 meters. As of 2004, there were plans to reinforce the plateau with steel rods to prevent further geological damage.
