2021-07-30 10:49:20 DāM-FunK has released a new album called Above the Fray. The record arrives via Glydezone.

Of the new project’s title, DāM-FunK said: “In 2015 I did an album called Invite the Light.… I invited the light back then which brought me above the fray. I’ve been learning that I want to keep the narrative positive and uplifting, I want to humbly interject into the game cats like myself who on any given day can listen to ‘Black Superman’ by Above the Law and at the same time listen to Larry Heard, Prince, Happy the Man, Barry White, or Prefab Sprout.”

In April, DāM-FunK released Architecture III, the final installment in his years-long genre study of house music.

2021-07-27 11:35:30 Ransom Note stalwart BAWRUT joins forces with stadium-packing avant-pop Italian phenomenon LIBERATO for the pumper ‘JE ‘O TTENG E T’O DDÒNG’.

Since the start of Bawrut’s love affair with Ransom Note five years ago with the release of his first EP ‘Ciquita’, the artist has steadily racked up high-profile fans like Dixon, Avalon Emerson, Axel Boman and Erol Alkan, all supporting his Ransom Note EPs and releases on other notable labels including DJ Tennis’ imprint ‘Life & Death’, Jennifer Cardini’s ‘Correspondant’ and Catz N Dogs ‘PETS recordings’. His most recent work on Ransom Note ‘Pronto Arpeggio’ traversed borders and genres with everyone from Sven Vath to Andrew Weatherall, Dixon to Midland, Hunee to Kolsch all building it in as a staple to their sets.

Sung in Neapolitan, the track hints at summer evenings in Bawrut and LIBERATO’s native Italy. A story from dusk to dawn. Set in a club, it’s an ode to the importance of being together with friends, sharing drinks, sweat and emotions – without curfew, masks or closed venues.

2021-07-26 12:13:13 Glass Beams - Mirage (2021)

Research Records indicate their inclination for cosmic instrumentation and kraut pervaded polyrhythms once again with an introduction to newcomer Glass Beams. Recorded at the beginning of 2020, Mirage is the first release from the artist, issuing four compositions that lend from a profusion of sounds and influences.
The album's opener and title Mirage arrives with a coiling vocal mantra that conspires with a sliding bassline and transcendent synthwork, reminiscent of early 70’s prog jams yet inverted and futuristic. Taurus is a brisk arrangement, steeped with spaghetti-western elements and space-jazz to pave the way for the agile Kong. Rife with psych-fusion guitar phrases and instrumentation, Kong unfolds like a forecast lysergic voyage. The finale Rattlesnake nudges the serpent with intergalactic scales and spellbinding riffs. We may not know much about the enigmatic Glass Beams but Mirage is one epic inauguration, leaving the listener with more questions than answers.

2021-07-23 12:30:37 The Italian percussionist-producer-composer Tommaso Cappellato will release his seventh album as a bandleader, Pioneered, on July 16, 2021. It was recorded during the artist’s month-long residency at the venerable Brooklyn contemporary arts space Pioneer Works, in 2018. Pioneered features contributions from a multicultural and sonically diverse cast of electronic, jazz, and experimental players whose own work and ideas about music communities naturally inform Cappellato’s.

The impressive list of contributors to Pioneered includes Shahzad Ismaily, jaimie branch, Val Jeanty, Afrikan Sciences, Michael Blake, Yusuke Yamamoto, Donato Dozzy, and others. Pioneered also marks the first release on Cappellato’s Domanda Music label, devoted to a global-minded eclecticism, rhythm, improvisation and joy.

2021-07-20 16:17:02 Makèz have come a long way since they first sneaked into Amsterdam’s studio 80 at the age of 17 to hand over their demos to Dam Swindle. Those demos led to their debut EP ‘Different planets’ on Heist in 2019 which gained major support from artists like Seth Troxler and Chez Damier. Quickly after, they signed two records on New York based label Let’s Play House. Fast forward two years, and here we are: the release of their debut album “City of all”.

"City of all” shows an admirable level of sophistication and matureness and effortlessly bridges genres across its 13 tracks. You can feel the amount of thought that has been put into this record, with songs happily blending into each other as Makèz submerge themselves in their concept of accidental encounters, inclusiveness and what it means to live in a city like Amsterdam.

2021-07-19 21:42:57 U.K. electronic duo Overmono are known for their infectious, club-ready sound, informed by their love of hard-edged '90s rave, trance, and breakbeat. It was a style they debuted on 2016's Arla EP and continued to develop on 2017's Arla II.

Raised in Wales, siblings Tom and Ed Russell both had successful careers in electronic music before they began collaborating as Overmono -- with Tom known for his hard-edged techno as Truss and Ed for his rave-instilled bass work as Tessela -- although there was a brief time the brothers performed together as the hardware-based techno duo TR//ER. Deciding to reduce the influence of their individual work from the mix, the pair booked five days in an isolated cottage studio in Devon to thrash out ideas and put together tracks for a possible release. Drawing inspiration from the pair's love of classic rave music and early-'90s trance and techno, the duo's unique mix of boundary-pushing electronica caught the ear of pioneering British dance label XL Recordings, which instantly signed the brothers.

Overmono's debut EP, Arla, appeared in 2016, with its mix of big room, trance-inspired arpeggiated riffs and dusty rave breaks gaining DJ play and positive reviews. The follow-up, Arla II, appeared a few months later in early 2017 and was once again instilled with the feeling of early-'90s British pirate radio stations and illegal outdoor raves. More stand-alone releases followed, including 2018's Raft Living and 2019's Bromley/Still Moving with Joy Orbison. In 2020, the duo returned with another EP, Everything You Need, which found them embracing an even more polished and nuanced sound. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi

2021-07-17 19:47:37 Stimulator Jones brings that playful, no-frills spirit to a new instrumental beat album, Low Budget Environments Striving For Perfection. Its title was inspired by Ego Trip’s Book of Rap Lists, describing, “the setting and manner in which most of my music and art has been created – trying to do the best I can with limited means and resources. It’s the DIY philosophy.” Described simply as “tape hiss, turntables, and THC”, Low Budget Environments… is a record born out of Stimulator Jones’ lifelong love of hip-hop. It sees the singer and multi-instrumentalist compiling the hip-hop beats he’s been creating since getting his first sampler as a teenager. These are, he says, “pure, uncut, straight forward beats – no clever arrangements, no cerebral overindulgence, no cute stuff, no vocals.
