2022-01-14 12:00:59 A Radically Condensed History Of Postindustrial Life

When they were introduced, he made a witticism, hoping to be liked. She laughed extremely hard, hoping to be liked. Then each drove home alone, staring straight ahead, with the very same twist to their faces. The man who’d introduced them didn’t much like either of them, though he acted as if he did, anxious as he was to preserve good relations at all times. One never knew, after all, now did one now did one now did one.

2022-01-10 20:10:01 That’s why Multi-tasking is somewhat of myth, because it just means you are playing ‘red-light green-light’ in your hippocampus and WM. When you jump from thing to thing, your neural traffic loses speed, gets disorganized, and degrades your best learning and memory.

Just like real traffic, the more stoplights you add in, the slower everybody goes. What’s more, anxiety and stress multiply quickly in congested, stop-go traffic, right? So, now your brain's emotional stress regions are activated and added into the ‘traffic.’

What’s amazing about WM and your brain, is that when you have done your best at one task, your other ideas [problems] tasks are there waiting for their turn and your full attention. So if you want your thinking, learning and memory to be tip-top, avoid those traffic jams that come from racing thoughts and jumping from thing to thing. Best wishes to task-masters, everywhere.

The Perils of Multi-tasking

Because there is a ‘central hub’ in the brain, called the hippocampus, that organizes and regulates all the super-highways of ‘neural traffic’ coming in from multiple brain areas.
When you are working on (one) task, the hippocampus protects your thinking by stopping all the ‘other traffic’, and only letting the important signals get through that let you pay attention, organize, problem-solve, and remember your task. This whole process of doing ‘one thing’ while the rest of the traffic waits at the ‘red lights’ is called Working Memory (WM).

Like any traffic pattern, WM has ‘limited capacity;’ it can only allow so much traffic through at one time. This is very necessary and efficient because it lets the key brain areas you need to ‘speed into’ the hippocampus ‘hub’ and help you with your specific thought[ task/ idea] problem.
If neural traffic is not controlled, then your thinking and problem-solving on ‘one thing’ gets interrupted, distracted and bogged down.

Is Death Bad for you?

Philosopher Epicurus argues that Death is not bad for you since you don't exist to experience it. He also adds that something you don't experience is not really bad.
There are some sound counter arguments by Thomas Nagel, claiming that Death is bad. Watch the video.

2022-01-01 22:45:02 1) Do less. Stop dividing your attention.

2) Do it right now. Once you have identified the essential, go fast. Maintain a bias toward action.

3) Do it the right way. Acting quickly doesn't mean acting carelessly. Get to work right away, but keep working on it until it's right.
