2022-08-23 14:00:11 How to get unified search in Pixel Launcher on stable Android 13?

Throughout the beta test of Android 13, Google was working on unifying Google Search on the home screen and on the device search in the app box. But in the final release we got the same search as on Android 12.1.

Google has said to 9to5Google that it is aware of the problem and that it will be resolved "in an upcoming release." However, you can try it now with a simple set of ADB Commands. But with one caveat, the current implementation may be randomly missing some search functions, like shorcuts and etc.

In fact, this is the same solution that Mishaal Rahman provided during the first beta. This change disappears after a reboot, but you can activate it again. Open / Comment

2022-08-22 21:00:11 Google Meet (formerly Duo) prepares a reorganization of the navigation.

The "Three Dots" context menu will be replaced by a profile icon with a menu and navigation drawer ("Hamburger"). This makes the app look more like the original Meet, which also had these elements.

What's notable is that the bar has rounded corners, which matches the updated Material Design 3 Navigation drawer component.

Also, the caption in the search bar will change from "Search contacts or dial" to "Search or enter code." And when you click it, you'll see a new "Enter a Meet Code" button.

These changes were found in the latest 173.0.468251367 version of the app and have not yet been rolled out to users. Open / Comment

2022-08-22 14:00:12 Google is starting to update the design of the profile context menu in its apps.

Almost every Google app has a context menu, accessed through the profile icon in the upper right corner. It usually contains the settings shortcut and many other pages of the app.

Introduced with Material Design 2, this component hasn't changed much since then. But now, Google has decided to take it over, starting with the Messages app. In the picture you can see a before and after comparison.

Now it has more rounded corners and the "Manage your Google Account" button is shaped like a rectangle with rounded corners instead of pill. Open / Comment

2022-08-21 21:00:09 Android 13 users now receive the Game Dashboard integrated into Google Play Services.

In Android 13, Google has removed the Game Dashboard from the Pixel SystemUI and started working on moving it to Google Play Services, as Mishaal Rahman noted earlier. This change was then noted to the changelog for the July Google Play system update.

As stated, the Game Dashboard becomes available in Google Play Services v.22.30 and newer.

You can find its settings by going to Settings/Google/Game Dashboard. Or open them directly from the game Dashboard. Open / Comment

2022-08-21 14:00:07 An insider has revealed the release date for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

According to Front Page Tech, a resource better known for insider Jon Prosser, their "very reputable sources" say that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be available for pre-order as early as October 6 - which is probably the date of the annual Made by Google presentation - and the devices will officially be available on October 13.

2022-08-20 21:00:10 JSK robotics experts at the University of Tokyo have developed a humanoid robot with a unique sweating mechanism.

Kengoro - weighs 56 kg, is built on a 1.7 m high aluminum frame and has 108 electric motors that need to be cooled. To do this, using a 3D printer, they printed parts of the robot's skeleton with microchannels inside, water circulates through them and cools the structure. For one day of work, the robot takes half a glass of deionized water.

Thanks to this system, Kengoro is able to perform intense loads, for example, push up from the floor for 11 minutes in a row without the motors failing due to overheating. Open / Comment

Users are invited to design or photograph pictures that can then be used in Pixel devices.

Open only to legal residents of Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Japan, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, who are above the age of majority in their respective country of residence at the time of entry.

Contest ends at 11:59 PM United States ET on August 23, 2022.

The Google TV app was launched exclusively in the United States in 2020, gradually replacing the Play Movies & TV app.

At the end of 2021, Google TV for Android appeared in 14 more countries, such as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
