According with Greece's Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos,
60 smugglers have been arrested in the last few days, and an estimated
1500 illegal immigrants tried to enter Greece this weekend alone
The Minister also took the opportunity to criticize SIRIZA's leader (largest opposition party in Greece) who accused the government of being inhumane for leaving immigrants stranded on an islet in the middle of the Evros river which after checking the coordinates, proves that the islet is in Turkish territory. The scandal was once again fabricated by the Turkish media (post about the incident here)

It is worth noting that due to border fortifications such as walls and razor wire, illegal immigration in the Evros region was made a lot harder, with smugglers sometimes opting to cross into Bulgaria first to avoid the Greek-Turkish border
