Iterative evolution is a special case of parallel evolution, which consists in the development of the same species from the same ancestor, but at different times.
This phenomenon is extremely rare, which is why scientists were surprised by the case of the "rebirth" of a bird that went extinct 136,000 years ago.
This is the first time that iterative evolution has been seen for this genus and one of the most significant examples in the history of birds.
