The Greek economy is expected to pass through the «sieve» for the 12th time after the country’s withdrawal from the memorandum. The Prime Minister of Greece and Pfizer CEO Albert Burla opened two companies in Thessaloniki on Tuesday, owned by Pfizer. These include Global Digital Innovation Centre and the Global Centre for Business Operations and Services.

Investment from the international pharmacy corporation, that became incredibly wealthy during the pandemic, will reach 650 million euros , which they will virtually inject into the economy of the northern port city and create much-needed jobs, said Burla at the opening of the Pfizer Center for Digital Innovation and Business Operations and Services.

«We have expanded our presence, having located here our operations center», - said the CEO, adding that Pfizer originally decided to invest in Thessaloniki two years ago. According to him, Pfizer’s priorities are consistent with Greece’s reformist policy, which calls for channeling resources from the EU Recovery Fund into innovation, exports, and sustainable growth.

«In our country there is human capital and economy based on knowledge», said Burla, a native of Thessaloniki, who has been CEO of Pfizer since 1993.

«This is a special moment for the city, for Pfizer, as well as for Albert Burla, a true Thessalonian», - said Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis in a speech at the opening ceremony, welcoming the investment. «He played an important role in the discovery of a vaccine against coronavirus», - said the Premier.
