The sack of the Protestant city of Magdeburg by Imperial troops and forces of the Catholic League on 20 May 1631. Of the 25,000 citizens, only 5,000 survived. The event is considered the worst massacre of the Thirty Years' War.
German student and anti-Nazi political activist Sophie Scholl, 1942. She and her brother Hans were active within the White Rose non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany. They were both convicted of high treason after having been found distributing anti-war leaflets at the University of Munich. For their actions, they were executed by guillotine.
David Livingstone (1813 – 1873). He was a Scottish physician, pioneer Christian missionary and explorer in Africa, and one of the most popular British heroes of the late 19th-century Victorian era. He also sought to end the Arab East African slave trade.
