Importance of Trigger Warnings in Huddlehumans

What is a trigger?
A trigger is a stimulus, such as a smell, sound or sight. These stimuli are able to trigger feelings of trauma, or a previously experienced event that was terrifying and/or incredibly stressful.

Some examples of trauma could include experiencing or witnessing death, serious injuries, sexual abuse such as rape, physical abuse, family violence, and many more.

To summarize:

- Triggers are a reminder of a past trauma

- Triggers can cause a person to feel anxiety, overwhelming emotions, panic, vivid flashbacks (yes, even just by reading your content).

- Trigger warnings let people avoid or prepare themselves ahead for triggers.

All in all, trigger warning is a notice that there might be potential triggers in the terrifying experience that you are trying to explain. We are not preventing you from writing out what you feel or need help with, but you really never know how you might trigger someone else when writing out your experience.

So please include a simple trigger warning template as the one depicted below:

And that's it! Simple as that. Let us all continue to stay mindful of each other's mental health and make this a better community.

Keep huddling,
