IDF: In the early morning, two IDF soldiers, a male and a female, were killed by an assailant who opened fire at them while they secured a military post at the Egyptian border. Afterward, additional soldiers arrived at the area and conducted searches there.

At noon, during the searches, IDF soldiers identified the assailant in Israeli territory, and an exchange of fire was instigated between the assailant and the soldiers. The soldiers shot and neutralized the suspect. During the exchange of fire, an IDF soldier was killed and an IDF non-commissioned officer was lightly injured.

The assailant is an Egyptian policeman. An investigation is conducted in full cooperation with the Egyptian army.

The incident is investigated in the field by the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, MG Eliezer Toledano, the Commanding Officer of the 80th Division, BG Itzik Cohen and additional commanders.

IDF soldiers continue searching the area to rule out the presence of any additional assailants.
