Simple Form (Present Situation)
Would rather + V1 than V1

Notice that 'the simple form' of a verb follows both 'would rather' and 'than'.
I would rather study grammar tonight than go to a movie.

If the verb is the same, it doesn't have to be repeated after than.
I would rather study history than (study) biology.

Past Form
Would rather have + past participle.
The movie was okay, but I would rather have gone to the concert last night.

Progressive form
Would rather + be + -ing
I would rather be lying on the beach in Florida than (be) sitting in class right now.

Contraction: I would = I'd

Negative form: would rather + not
