2022-06-16 17:52:12 Academic Writing Task 2

Pollution and other environmental damage always result from a country developing and becoming richer. These problems cannot be avoided.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Sample answer

It is stated that the development of nations appears to be a primary contributor to destruction of environment. Although this statement can be true in some cases, there are many instances in which mismanagement has played the main roles in environmental damages. Hence, to some extent I agree with that statement.

Needless to say, many industrial projects, which their goal is making affluent societies, are not environment friendly. Extracting oil from ocean, for example, can be associated with serious environmentally consequences, such as spilling oil and contaminating marine inhabitants. As a result, this example might be a dire danger to nature.

Nevertheless, developmental activities might not the unique causes of environmental damage. Indeed, mismanagement may have far more serious destructive impact on environment. It is believed that recycling contributes to preserving a considerable resource such as soil and water. A piece of plastic may take a few hundreds of years to be degraded while its recycling process is not performed properly, for example. Thus, this issue is not pertained to developmental processes; by contrast, it totally depends on city management.

Moreover, many pollutants, such as nitrous oxide, are emitted exclusively from commuting vehicles. The soaring use of private vehicles in urban regions suffering from shortage of efficient public transportation attributed to higher environmental damage. As a result, this problem also is not related to developing process.

To sum up, although some would cite that industrial achievements can cause environmental damage, there are other factors, including mismanagements, can play an imperative role in producing pollutant and damaging natural inhabitants.

2022-05-30 16:32:39 #TESL, #TEFL, #TESOL, #CELTA

Essentially, there is no difference. All four terms describe teaching the English language. TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) is commonly used to refer to teaching English to people who are living in an English speaking country. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) refers to teaching people who live in a country where English is not commonly spoken. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) encompasses both TESL and TEFL. In Canada, TESL is the most commonly used term. CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) is a British-based certificate that is equivalent to TESL Canada.

2022-05-18 18:52:38 What Makes an Effective Sentence?

Writing beautiful sentences is not an exact science. Although there are basic rules of grammar, good writers find ways to express themselves through writing in different ways: using different vocabulary, varying the length of sentences, using different sentence types, and more!

Grammatically, a sentence needs a subject and a predicate. However, stylistically, it needs much more:

clarity:
a sentence should be clear to the reader

well-chosen vocabulary:
choose words whose meaning you are sure of, and use them correctly

strong verbs:
when possible, use verbs that show the action of the sentence. The verb 'be' (in all its forms -- is, are, was, were, etc.) is a weaker choice of verb in many cases. Try to find a verb that shows the action.

proper length:
if your sentence expresses a simple idea, it probably needs to be a short sentence. More complex ideas may need longer sentences. Vary your sentence lengths as well. If all your sentences are short, your writing sounds "choppy." If all your sentences are long, your writing can be overly complicated and hard to understand.

limited number of clauses and prepositions:
the more clauses and prepositions you have in a sentence, the harder it can be to understand. Think about how many clauses you have included in a single sentence.

subject-verb agreement:
be sure you can identify the subject of your sentence, then make sure the verb agrees with it in number. For example:
The cup is full of coffee.
The cups are full of coffee.

correct verb tense:
if you are speaking of things in the past, use past tense verbs. This may seem obvious, but if your native language does not make this distinction with verbs, this can be a difficult aspect of English.
