The table compares the amount of money a retired single person | Sirojiddin Malikov | IELTS EVEREST

The table compares the amount of money a retired single person and a couple need in Australia.

It is clear that a retired couple spend more than a retired single person does. While a retired single person’s highest expense is housing, it is leisure activities that account for the largest expense of retired couples.

The difference between the amounts of money going on housing is not big for both groups of people, which is only 10 dollars. However, there are noticeable differences when it comes to other expenses. Leisure and health make up 140 and 122 dollars of a retired single person’s total expenditure, which are significantly lower than those of a retired couple, at 200 and 177 dollars respectively.

Interestingly, both a retired single person and a couple spend almost the same amount of money on transport, at around 108 dollars. This is in marked contrast to clothing, food and other expenses, which cost the double amount if two people are living together. In total, a single person after retirement needs 684 dollars, whereas a retired couple should have 931 dollars to cover all the expenses.
