It is said that newspapers influence people's opinions and ide | Sirojiddin Malikov | IELTS EVEREST

It is said that newspapers influence people's opinions and ideas enormously. While I admit that this is a positive situation to some extent, I believe that this huge power is misused for the most part.

Some people may argue that newspapers' impact on the ideas and opinions of people is positive for two reasons. Firstly, newspapers can keep people posted about what is happening around them. Without reading newspapers, people may not be able to stay up to date and may end up having no idea of what is going on locally and internationally. Reading newspapers, people can easily form an idea about an important event that happened in their local area. Secondly, newspapers cover a range of topids, giving people different kinds of ideas that they may not have had before. This results in people broadening their outlook to a great extent.

However, I think that this is a completely negative situation. More often than not, newspapers distort the information, making it misleading. They do this in an attempt to attract more readers, but this may have an adverse effect on people's opinions. Celebrities oftentimes complain about how newspapers paint a terrible picture of them by exaggerating what happened. Instead of telling the true story, they make it more controversial, causing many misconceptions about these celebrities. Even worse, newspapers are censored in some parts of the world, meaning that they can only share the news that their governments allow. This has a negative effect on people's opinions about their own country. Ignorant of the facts, many people in the world think that their country is thriving even if the opposite is true.

In conclusion, although newspapers may have a positive effect on people's ideas, I firmly believe that they often misuse their power and change people's opinions for the worse.
