Hello everyone, this is Oybek writing. Today I'd like to share with you a few of the mistakes I come across often which you should avoid making:
1. INCORRECT: 'discuss about'. CORRECT: 'discuss'. Although it is correct to say 'to have a discussion about', with the verb 'discuss' don't ever use 'about'. It is simply incorrect.
Example:
Let's discuss next year's plan. OR
Let's have a discussion about next year's plan. 2. INCORRECT: 'explain someone something'. CORRECT: 'explain to someone something' OR 'explain something to someone. After 'explain' don't forget the preposition 'to' before someone who receives the explanation.
Example:
Can you please explain to me the theory of general relativity in simple words?3. INCORRECT: 'announce someone something'. CORRECT: 'announce something to someone'. Similar to 'explain', the preposition 'to' is required after announce and before the recipient of the announcement.
Example:
Don't announce the result of your exam to the world yet. 4. INCORRECT: 'commit to do'. CORRECT: 'commit to doing'. Here 'to' is a preposition and not part of an infinitive similar to 'object to', 'look forward to' and 'confess to'. Therefore, gerund follows the 'to'.
Example:
The participants of the program have to commit to upholding the rules in place.
