With 71 percent of the Earth covered with water, or around 326 | Interesting Engineering

With 71 percent of the Earth covered with water, or around 326 quintillion gallons (round to 1234 quintillion liters), it's easy to assume that there's ample water to sustain human needs. However, most of Earth's water is salty, or in other words, saline, which does not have much use when it comes to what we drink, bathe in or use to grow food. Those uses require freshwater— and it turns out that this is actually relatively scarce stuff. Making up under three percent of Earth's water and largely tucked away in glaciers, you can see where this is going, especially in a warmer, drier future.
