#5 From the merits of feeding the food to the needy and the poor

From the actions of the people of Paradise:

Al-Baraa' Ibn `Aazib رضي الله عنه said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allaah! Teach me an action which will enable me to enter the Paradise.” He ﷺ said: ❝The question is a broad one, even though you have asked it in only a few words. Free someone and set a slave free.❞ The man said: “Are they not the same thing?” He ﷺ said: ❝No, freeing someone is setting someone free yourself. Setting a slave free is to contribute to the price of setting him free. You should also lend for milking a she-camel which has much milk and be well disposed towards a relative (even though he) has done wrong (to you). If you cannot do that, then feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, enjoin the good and forbid the bad. If you cannot do that, then restrain your tongue from everything except what is good.❞

[Musnad Ahmad (18647) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in Saheeh al-Targheeb (951, 1898, 2853). Al-Haakim also reported it in his al-Mustadrak (2861) and said: “It is Saheeh” and al-Dhahabee agreed with him.]
