A male lion named Pathbanathan, aged 12 years, and housed in the Lion Safari area of
Arignar Anna Zoological Park in #Chennai passed away at 10.15 am on June 16 due to #COVID19.
The samples of the said lion had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 as per the report of National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal communicated on June 6.2021. The lion was under intensive treatment since then, says zoo administration.
This is the second lion death due to #COVID19 in the Vandalur zoo. Early this month, a nine-year-old lioness had died due to the infection. Totally, nine lions were infected.
