UOBKH: US stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Technology and Financials sectors led shares higher. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.98%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.41%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.67%. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones,on the New York Stock Exchange by 2,440 to 675 and 145 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,535 rose and 1,243 declined, while 232 ended unchanged.
