The Difference
In most cases “if” and “whether” are interchangeable. However, there are three instances where we always use “whether” and never “if”.
1. discuss + whether They discussed whether Jane would be promoted. 2. whether + infinitive I can’t decide whether to stay at the party or go home. 3. preposition + whether Sue was interested in whether she could volunteer or not.
