“As-Salaam-Alaikum” is the most common greeting among Muslims and means “Peace be upon you”. The most common response that you can give is “Wa-Alaikum-Salaam”, which means “Peace be also with you”.

وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوا بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا أَوْ رُدُّوهَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَسِيبًا

'When you are given a greeting, respond with a better greeting or return the same. Indeed, Allah is Reckoner of all things.'
