Africa is extremely vulnerable to and bears the brunt of drought, flooding, cyclones and other climate change-led weather events. In fact, every third death (or 35 per cent) from extreme weather, climate or water stress in 50 years was in Africa. Under these circumstances, there is a need to strengthen the capacity of African meteorological services.
