The castle of Oravski Grad stands on a cliff more than 100 meters high on the banks of the Morava River, near the village of Oravski Podzamok. Due to its location, the castle acquired the second name "eagle's nest". This castle complex began to be built in the XIII century on the site of a wooden fortification. For the first time Oravsky grad was mentioned in chronicle sources back in 1267. A century later, it was already one of the largest castles in the area. The palace on the territory of the City was built in the XVI century, and in 1800 the castle buildings suffered during a fire, and only in the XIX century its reconstruction in the Romanticism style began. The castle was completely reconstructed only in the last century, and now the Moravian Museum of Local Lore is located here.
