Troubled Asian crypto lender Vauld has received a further extension to its legal protection from creditors — albeit a shorter delay than requested. The company now has until Feb. 28 to explore options to ease its financial troubles, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told The Block.

Vauld, however, had sought protection through Apr. 21, according to an affidavit obtained by The Block. The firm's previous creditor protection expires on Jan. 20. The latest extension was granted today in the Singapore High Court at a hearing before Justice Aedit Abdullah, the sources said. Vauld's envisioned end goal is for the fund manager to invest its assets and use the target investment returns to repay the creditors.

Two of Canada's largest exchanges, Coinsquare and WonderFi, are in advanced merger talks, BNN Bloomberg reported, citing sources. If the deal goes through, the merged company would become the biggest crypto exchange in Canada with about 1.15 million users.

Coinsquare had been planning to acquire crypto trading platform CoinSmart but shelved the plans this month. One source with knowledge of the discussions with WonderFi told BNN Bloomberg that Coinsquare's regulatory status with Canada's Investment Industry Regulatory Organization could help it play a role in consolidating distressed crypto firms in the country. one possibility would see Coinsquare shareholders take a majority stake in the merged business.

A federal bankruptcy judge on Wednesday terminated FTX's naming-rights deal with Miami-Dade county for the downtown arena where the NBA's Miami Heat play, the Miami Herald reported.The order states that Miami-Dade county will stop using the FTX name immediately.

Officials in Miami-Dade County said in November that they would find a new naming rights partner and work to terminate business relationships with FTX after it filed for bankruptcy. Known as the FTX Arena since a $135 million naming rights deal was announced about two years ago, the complex sits in the heart of downtown Miami and also hosts non-basketball events. the Miami Heat did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment.
