Option (a) is correct: Maitri Diwas (6 December) is being observed and celebrated to mark India's recognition of Bangladesh as an independent country. Ten days before the liberation of Bangladesh, India had given recognition to the country on 6 December 1971 and was one of the first nations to establish bilateral diplomatic ties with it. Maitri Diwas is being commemorated in 18 countries besides Dhaka & New Delhi. These countries are Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, UK, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE and USA.
