It is truly bizarre that you know Allah yet do not love Him. You hear His caller inviting you to Him yet you delay in responding.

You know that the greatest gain lies in occupying yourself with Him yet you preoccupy yourself with others. You know the extent of His wrath yet you expose yourself to it.

You taste the anguish of loneliness when disobeying Him yet do not seek the intimacy of obeying Him. You feel the heart constrict when speaking of another yet have no desire to free it with the quietude of remembering Him and communing with Him.

You suffer the misery of attaching the heart to another yet you don’t flee to the bliss of devotion to Him and turning to Him in penitence.

Even more bizarre is that you know you need Him in your life, that your need of Him is dire, yet you turn away and hanker after that which would distance you from Him!
