On RejectionsIn two years of applying to the US, I got rejected by more than 20 universities. Since then, I have received dozens of rejections—MUNs, business accelerators, universities, internal Yale-NUS opportunities, you name it.
In most cases, getting rejected was a blessing.
Every rejection is a valuable indicator of several possibilities.
• You may need to improve yourself.
• The program is not for you.
• You applied at the wrong time.
Most rejections humble you, making you arrive at valuable ideas earlier than you otherwise would.
That is why, back in the day, I genuinely congratulated Rustam on his first college rejection. He might have been a bit angry at me for that. (Please let me know if that was a passive-aggressive "Thank you" ) But I am glad he experienced that early on.
As long as you learn from them, rejections are the building blocks of success.
P.S. Tune in for my tomorrow's post on the so-called "impostor syndrome" in college.
