The day marks the establishment of Central Excise & Salt Act which was enacted on 24th February 1944
About Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC)
Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC) is the nodal national agency responsible for administering Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax & Narcotics in India.
A part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India
With the enactment of the Finance Act, 2018, Central Board of Excise & Customs(CBEC) was renamed as Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC)
The change was necessitated due to enactment of the Goods & Services Tax (GST) which has consolidated the multiple Indirect Taxes into one tax.
