2022-04-25 17:52:19 One of the interesting takeaway from the French Presidential Election is that Marine Le Pen did far better than expected – taking 41.5 per cent of the vote. However, she was still easily defeated by Macron. Collecting data on demographics is strictly forbidden in France, and unlike in the UK, the French government do not record any census data on ethnicity. However, from what we can see from data on religion and those with foreign names, it seems as if France is roughly 70 per cent white French (ie 70 per cent of the population is of indigenous French stock). This would imply that the majority of indigenous French people did indeed vote for Marine Le Pen – however this was not enough. The fact is, with a non-indigenous population of around 30 per cent, it appears impossible for the indigenous population to win an outright majority in a national election. This goes to prove one thing: demographic change robs the indigenous people of a nation of any real power long before it reduces them to an outright minority. Open / Comment
