Limewire was one of the first peer-to-peer file sharing clients, launched in the year 2000.

At one point, it was estimated Limewire was running on a third of all computers in the world.

Many of the files distributed on these kind of P2P networks contained viruses and malware. Limewire was shut down by a court order against music piracy in 2010.
