Fauci here purports to lay out arguments for why a universal vaccine against coronaviruses is needed.
It’s completely fatuous. We’re very fortunate to have already identified a number of safe & effective oral treatments that, currently, are being employed around the world, which have already rendered SARS-CoV-2 & covid19 the most treatable respiratory virus infection ever.
It will NEVER be appropriate to attempt to develop, at “Warp speed”, a novel vaccine, especially using gene-based approaches, for a respiratory viral illness which has such a low population lethality.
This because the time required to accumulate reliable evidence of long-term safety, absolutely essential if a vaccine is to be offered universally, is appreciably longer than the time during which an outbreak of international concern lasts.
Ploughing ahead without such data is unforgivably reckless as this demonstrably can result in greater suffering & death than the unhindered virus itself.
It is VERY dangerous to permit a role holder such as Fauci to remain in post for several decades because this facilitates “institutional capture” of agencies close to all the decision-making bodies & institutions.
