Laura Trevelyan, whose great, great, great-grandfather Sir Charles Trevelyan oversaw the UK government’s response to the tragedy, said that her family would consider reparations if the Irish government found her family were “liable”.

Ms Trevelyan’s family have already agreed to donate £100,000 to the Caribbean island of Grenada to atone for the slave holdings of their ancestors, who had six sugar plantations on the island in the 1800s.

After issuing the apology and promising the money for community projects in February, the US-based British broadcaster quit her job at the BBC in order to become a “roving advocate” for reparative justice.

The crash in retail sales of Bud Light has deepened amid conservative calls for a boycott following the brand’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, according to a beer industry report.

Tracking data on Bud Light sold in places like supermarkets and liquor stores (off-premise sales volumes outside of restaurants and bars) fell by an annualized 26.1 percent in the week ended April 22, according to Beer Business Daily.

“The shocking deterioration of Bud Light Blue’s market share continued apace through the third week of April—and actually somehow worsened. We’ve never seen such a dramatic shift in national share in such a short period of time,” Beer Business Daily wrote in commentary on the scanner volume data.

A former government official who claims he is nonbinary has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation after avoiding jail time for a series of luggage thefts.

Samuel Brinton, until recently a deputy assistant secretary in the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, was able to enter an adult diversion program for the theft he carried out at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in 2022 while still being employed by the government.

Brinton must undergo a mental health evaluation as well as fulfill other requirements, including writing a letter of apology to the person who owned the luggage that was stolen.

Oil and gas giant Shell must donate more than $1 billion in unexpected profits from the potential sale of its assets in Russia to help rebuild Ukraine, according to a top Kyiv official.

In a letter to CEO Wael Sawan, dated April 18 and seen by POLITICO, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's economic adviser Oleg Ustenko called on Shell to share with Ukraine any profits from a potential Russian buyout of the British firm's stake in a Siberian fossil fuel venture.

“If completed, this sale would represent the transfer of more than $1 billion in Russian cash into Shell’s accounts. That would be blood money, pure and simple,” Ustenko wrote.

“We call on Shell to put any Russian sale or dividend proceeds to work for the victims of the war — the same war that those assets have fuelled and funded,” he added.
