Though the beautiful island of Kumbalangi is just a short drive from Ernakulam, it is a completely different world. Here the backwaters stretch unencumbered as far as the eye can see. The hiss of traffic is replaced by the swish of the leaves in coconut groves. Ducks waddle along the streets instead of harried people hurrying by.
