I watched the DOE announcement on the Fusion ignition event fr | LadyDraza

I watched the DOE announcement on the Fusion ignition event from Lawrence Livermore. I was terribly disheartened that the FIRST application touted by each and every speaker was "nuclear deterrence". For those that don't speak government-ese, that means we can build weapons capable of killing lots of life with it.

Way on down the list they mentioned we could use it for domestic power generation.

When are we all going to get smart and build new pwr fission power plants that have zero emissions, don't fill China's coffers and prevent rolling blackouts?

Even better...Thorium molten salt reactors.

Wanna know why thorium reactors haven't received as much funding research money as fusion?

Even Wikipedia tells you:
"One advantage of thorium fuel is its low weaponization potential; it is difficult to weaponize the uranium-233/232 and plutonium-238 isotopes that are largely consumed in thorium reactors."

However, I am always enamored with the absolute brilliance of our American researchers.
