There are two words that mean the same thing but have different meanings depending on how they are used.
These are "passed" and "past." For example, if you said to someone "I passed by your house on my way to work," you would mean that you did not stop at their house on your way. On the other hand, if you said
"I passed by your house last month," you would mean that you had stopped by their house last month.
