Spain Election: Conservatives Fall Short Of Majority: Opposition right-wing Popular Party (PP) claimed the most votes, but they are projected to fall short of a parliamentary majority with 136 seats out of 350 in the lower chamber. The Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez' Socialist Workers' Party secured 122 seats. The PP will likely need support from various junior parties to reach the required governing majority of 176 seats as even with potential collaboration from the far-right Vox party, the combined count stands seven short of a majority at 169 seats. Catalan independence leader Carles Puigdemont, on the run from Spanish justice after failing to push through a split from Spain in 2017, could hold the key to unlocking the political impasse if approached by Sanchez to exchange a vote or abstention for concessions on independence.
