As the legend goes, in 525 BC, the Persian king Cambyses II successfully conquered the Egyptian fortress of Pelusium by placing cats sacred to the Egyptians in front of his army - and Egyptian archers didn't start shooting for fear of harming the cats. As a result of winning the battle of Pelusium, the Persians captured all of Egypt with almost no further struggle.
