During World War II, pigeons were used by the Soviet army to deliver small incendiary shells to enemy aircraft.
For this purpose pigeons were dropped from an airplane, where they were in a special cassette. An incendiary projectile of pressure action was attached to the pigeon. Using a special mechanism, the pigeons were released from a cassette attached to the aircraft, which held twenty-four birds. When the pigeon landed on an object, the projectile triggered a pressure fuse.
