2022-08-23 18:42:40 The Snapdragon 810 SoC which the lumia 950 xl uses is almost 8 years old today. It's very impressive for a platform to be supported for so long. But given it's armv8.0 (without atomics) and windows recent requirement step up for arm atomics, it is a matter of days til windows itself stops working as well with newer versions. We survived one recent OS break with HVC hypervisors, Atomics aren't going to be bypassable.

2022-08-23 18:39:05 in fact, things have been stalling for a while already, but a notice was needed so new comers would know what's up, something I underestimated the need for. It isn't going to change how things currently are, you will still be able to run desktop on your phone. But you will also know not much will improve, and the project just is in maintenance mode, as it has been for a while already

2022-08-23 18:37:05 If you still don't have a Lumia 950, but still want to run windows on a phone, there are much better options today than there was in 2017/18/19/20. The Renegade Project does something very similar with newer SoC hardware, SDM845/MSM8998, and there's also an ongoing effort for Surface Duo at @DuoWOA and for other 855 devices. Archiving the project here doesn't mean things will stop working or anything, it's just a statement to indicate that things, ended development so people don't think this is usable or finished or still being worked on. Some of the other devices are also cheaper than some Lumia offerings on ebay, with much less troubles with battery.

2022-08-23 18:34:58 I may release a final release by this weekend which just brings things to a better state compared to last update regressions, if someone also happens to want to help by this weekend I may also not archive the driver repo yet. But otherwise this may be the final release.

2022-08-23 14:50:42 CheckingOut.txt:

Hello everyone,
A bit of an unusual status update, but a much needed one, and a reality check.

We are looking for people that would be willing to help regarding the LumiaWOA project.

As you may know, a lot of issues plague the project still today, regarding cpu performance, thermals, and stability. A lot of these issues can be attributed to one driver, qcpep.sys among others (we're not too sure either). We started this project in 2017, did a lot, but we were unable to fix these core issues, that people have an issue with, and us as well. Given this, and the lack of knowledge we have on the existing driver, we would be looking for someone willing to try and experiment with what things are available today, or make new drivers or things, in order to help the project progress and improve these. It can vary from reverse engineering to just making everything from scratch.

We know these issues can be fixed, and one of us explained a few of the issues we think are at play here in the main discussion group that you can join by going to the channel info on telegram and tapping on "discussion".

Otherwise, given the amount of bugs reported and the lack of people able to address these issues currently, the project is going to be archived in a few weeks, given it is at a stalling point, and to also notify people that, the project stopped, has a few issues, and that we're not working on it anymore.

It has been a long ride since 2017, and I personally would want this to continue, but i'm afraid i can't do it myself anymore, so if you think you could help, want to try, or know someone, we would be very happy, even after it gets archived. You can join the discussion group, fork what we did, experiment yourself, and show everyone what progress you could make. And maybe we could share what we know already but don't expect much.

Hopefully someone can help make things move along. Otherwise, things need to come to an unfortunate end. We didn't get a lot of help for quite a while already as well, and the original team got very busy as time moved along. Things aren't going away however, what was released to the community will be kept, just with a notification that things are halted, because that's the reality.

Thank you all for all the support over the years, it has been awesome, even if some times weren't that great. It was def something to experiment with full windows arm64 on a phone before things got a bit more mainstream, it helped a lot of people as well in various areas, and hope it will continue further.

2022-08-17 18:04:12 (yes this means wifi/cellular/whatever will work out of the box, like it used to be, without having to use the driverupdater utility)

2022-08-17 18:02:53 Updated Drivers to version 2208.54

- Due to low usage, the Stable channel has been removed and the experimental channel is now the default going forward.
- ARM32 for 8994/8992 Has been deprecated. Sorry (but also not sorry)
- Download size is way smaller than it used to be, should help with people with poor download connections.
- Some improvements were made regarding communication between thermal sensors and other system sensors.
- Device Names have been reverted to the stock defaults for ease of use.
- Improvements to the power management configuration in use by the system.
