The 48 Laws of Power
By Robert Greene

Genre: Self Help, Non Fiction

Goodreads: (4.13/5)

Drawn from 3,000 years of the history of power, this is the definitive guide to help readers achieve for themselves what Queen Elizabeth I, Henry Kissinger, Louis XIV and Machiavelli learnt the hard way. This amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive book synthesizes the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz with the historical legacies of statesmen, warriors, seducers, and con men throughout the ages.

The 48 laws are illustrated through the tactics, triumphs and failures of great figures from the past who have wielded - or been victimised by - power.

Displacement
By Kiku Hughes
4.35

A teenager is pulled back in time to witness her grandmother's experiences in World War II-era Japanese internment camps.

Kiku is on vacation in San Francisco when suddenly she finds herself displaced to the 1940s Japanese-American internment camp that her late grandmother, Ernestina, was forcibly relocated to during World War II.

These displacements keep occurring until Kiku finds herself ""stuck"" back in time. Living alongside her young grandmother and other Japanese-American citizens in internment camps, Kiku gets the education she never received in history class. She witnesses the lives of Japanese-Americans who were denied their civil liberties and suffered greatly, but managed to cultivate community and commit acts of resistance in order to survive.

2021-08-25 21:02:42 "Hope is a coin I carry, given to me by a woman I will always love, and I hold it now as I journey west, part of a new generation of seekers."

This quote which comes at the very end of the book actually sums up the moral quite well!
The book was filled with ups and downs so much it made me keep turning pages whole day and night!

No gonna lie, the start of the book had me angry, and angry not towards the book, but towards how people were treating the protagonist of the book.
I saw a free bird being caged and then after she leapt free I saw her getting institutionalized into a house wife....

Then the book shows you the other side, "the great depression"
You are sitting in awe as you see a mother doing everything she can to feed their children and all the while working, not excepting free food so others can have it!

She believes in the american dream, she works hard and the mother and daughter conflict has you hooked.
You see the struggle of the common man after everything is taken from them.......
And then comes the revolutionary ideas and the commentary on capitalism which I wouldn't get into due to spoilers.

If you decide to read this book, be prepared to go through the sorrows, the struggles and amongst it all, the love the families face during these hard times!

But at the end of the book you learn HOPE....
"And hope, Hope is a coin I carry, given to me by a woman I will always love, and I hold it now as I journey west, part of a new generation of seekers.

The Four Winds
by Kristin Hannah

Goodreads: (4.34/5)

Texas, 1934. Millions are out of work and a drought has broken the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing, the water is drying up, and dust threatens to bury them all. One of the darkest periods of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl era, has arrived with a vengeance.

In this uncertain and dangerous time, Elsa Martinelli—like so many of her neighbors—must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or go west, to California, in search of a better life. The Four Winds is an indelible portrait of America and the American Dream, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation.
