This is the earliest Vinayaka sculpture so far found in Tamilnadu. This belongs to the 5th century CE. It has Tamil Brahmi inscription underneath the vinayaka on the same slab. Before this was discovered during the time of temple renovation, Karpagam Vinayagar of Pillayar Patti was the earliest Vinayaka which belong to the sixth century. This is found in Yama Thandeeswarar temple in the village of Alagramam in Villupuram district in Tamilnadu.
