How the distribution of films by genre has changed over the last 100 years
Nothing is new under the moon - and even the genre structure of modern cinema is very similar to what was filmed 60 years ago.
Less comedies were made after their heyday in the 80's and 90's, the number of melodramas also decreased (the first peak of their popularity was in the 20's, the second one - much less in the 90's). But now the horror movies, almost disappearing from the screens at the end of the 90's, are gaining popularity again.
One of the characteristics of the current era: the rise in the popularity of thrillers. Never have so many of them been made in relation to the total number of films released in the world as now!
