ADDICTIONS: EVERYONE HAS ONE

When we think about addiction, we bring to mind the opioid epidemic and street drugs and alcohol, hotlines and rehab, programs to get dry and recover. Addiction is deeper than all this, and also more widespread. It’s more vast than fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, alcohol, pills, and cigarettes alone. We all have an addictive nature deep inside us. If you think you’re completely immune to addictive behavior on any level, you could be in denial. Addiction runs through all avenues of life and lifestyle. Have you ever heard someone say, “We all have our vices”? That’s truer than we know.

There are countless addictions, some of which I share below and in much greater detail in the New York Times best-selling Medical Medium Brain Saver: Answers to Brain Inflammation, Mental Health, Brain Fog, Neurological Symptoms, ADHD, Anxiety, OCD, Depression, Heavy Metals, Epstein Barr, Seizures, Lyme, Addiction, Alzheimer’s, Autoimmune & Eating Disorders and its companion title, Brain Saver Protocols, Cleanses & Recipes For Neurological, Autoimmune and Mental Health (both books are 40% off on Amazon today).

As you read the following examples of addictions, you will begin to understand just how widespread and invasive addictions have become for all of us, whether at a low level that doesn’t disrupt your life too much, or at a level that is completely debilitating and destructive to your health, relationships, and ability to function in life. Some less obvious addictions you might have could include, for example:

* Habitually fixating on a favorite food or meal
* Acting like someone you’re not in a way that isn’t good for you
* Devices and/or TV
* Confrontation
* Expressing toxic opinions on the Internet
* Exercise
* Shopping
* Adrenaline play such as zip-lining, hang gliding, or bungee jumping
* Looking outside your front door and checking up on your neighbors too frequently
* Staying up late or staying up all night
* Collecting—pets, antiques, anything
* Hoarding
* Organizing

Or you could have a more serious addiction such as caffeine, sex, MSG, gambling or driving too fast. Addiction to scented candles, air fresheners, perfumes, and colognes are serious too. These types of synthetic fragrances are injurious to health.

Not all addictions are negative. There are positive ones too. You could be addicted to getting a full night’s sleep. You could be addicted to healthy hobbies. You could be addicted to being outdoors. Our addictive nature can help us in this way. But what about if our addiction doesn’t help us? Our addictive nature can quickly turn unhealthy if we don’t know what really causes serious, dangerous, or even destructive addictions. This is what I cover in depth in Brain Saver and Brain Saver Protocols, Cleanses & Recipes.

We’ve always wanted to separate ourselves from the idea of addiction. Historically blame usually fell on the person struggling with addiction for lack of willpower or for some form of weak-mindedness, mental flaw, or lack of inner strength. Compassion was conspicuously absent from the conversation. The truth is that with addiction, at any level, something is happening inside the brain that explains why bringing a substance into the body or engaging in a certain activity sets off a dependence. That brain reaction explains why someone is reaching for that caffeine or other addictive substance or activity in the first place. Nobody knows the full truth of what’s going on in the brain to create addiction.

In Medical Medium Brain Saver and Brain Saver Protocols, Cleanses & Recipes, you’ll discover:
* The four main types of causes that can create a susceptibility to addiction
* What is really happening in the brain when these causes are at work
* The gene theory and why addictions aren’t genetic but can often show up in the same family line
* The role of adrenaline in addiction
