Polycoria is a pathological condition of the eye characterized by the presence of more than one pupillary openings in the iris.
It occurs two ways congenitally or as a result of a disease affecting the iris.
The result is decreased function of the iris and pupil.
There are two different types of polycoria, true polycoria and pseudopolycoria.
True polycoria is considered to be when all pupils dilate and contract simultaneously.
Pseudopolycoria is chacterized by the presence of a passive contraction that differentiates the extra and principal pupil.
The incidence is unknown but according to a 2002 article there have only been 2 cases since 1966.
