I am baffled and disturbed to see all my friends excited to get their Twitter accounts back. Why on earth would you want it? I can’t think of anything more depressing—or enslaving. And that’s coming from me! I was, as you know, the undisputed master of that particular art form.
Perhaps that’s why I am sad. Because now we have to sit through 18 months of Con Inc clingers and imitators pathetically trying to recapture the spirit of 2016. It will be especially painful for me, given that I wrote the music, lyrics and liner notes to that era. I suppose I shall have to endure thousands of wretched facsimiles of @Nero.
My Twitter account was the most influential work of art since the Second World War. It belongs in a museum, to be pondered semi-annually over gin and tonic and cucumber sandwiches… it did not deserve this. I will not dishonor its memory with some squalid and unsatisfying sequel. I no longer wage war with the Devil’s tools.
